Catalogues of the main collection

    • BOOK CATALOGUES
    • Alphabetical catalogue – Because of the difference in the alphabets of the books, acquired and stored in the library, they are sorted in three groups of catalogues:
      1. Catalogue of Bulgarian books;
      2. Catalogue of books with Cyrillic alphabet in other languages (Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, Serbian, etc.);
      3. Catalog of books in Latin alphabet.
    • The catalogue of books in Latin alphabet is in two series: books received in the library until 1977, and books acquired after 1978. This division is a pure formality. It was considered necessary due to the preparation of a printed catalogue.
    • The catalogue of books written with Latin alphabet includes the catalogue descriptions of the books in all languages, written with Latin alphabet (original works and translated works).
      1. Systematic Catalogue
      2. The systematic catalogue arranges the content of the library holdings by systematically sorting the catalogue descriptions based on the classification selected by the National Library.
      3. The systematic catalogue of the St. St. Cyril and Methodius National Library is divided into three series due to a change in the classification schemes in 1960 and 1993. In each branch of knowledge, the catalogue cards are arranged first in Cyrillic script, and then in Latin script (in alphabetical order, without sorting by language).
    • Subject catalogue
      The subject catalogue arranges the content of the library collections by referencing literature on specific topics and subjects arranged alphabetically. The subject headings are followed by subject cards, indicating the literature on these subjects. The subject catalogue does not include: fiction, textbooks up to 8th grade, collections with mixed content or without exact subject.
    • Union catalogues
      Union catalogues of the collections of major scientific libraries in  Sofia, in two series – 1944-1979 ; 1980-2007
